The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) District 3 is accepting applications for seasonal positions to assist with snow and ice removal in several counties, including Bureau, La Salle, DeKalb, Kendall, Grundy, Livingston, Ford, Iroquois, and Kankakee. Interested candidates must apply online at https://illinois.jobs2web.com by Monday, Sept. 30. The easiest way to find the job posting on the site is by typing the preferred county into the search bar.

IDOT is hiring both full-time Winter Highway Maintainers and hourly Winter Highway Maintainers to help manage over 45,000 lane miles statewide during winter. These employees must be ready to respond promptly to weather conditions requiring snow and ice removal and be available for emergency work at any time, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Full-time positions start at $5,814 per month while hourly workers are paid $25 an hour.

Applicants need a valid commercial driver’s license and email address and must pass a criminal background check. They also need to complete a pre-employment physical and vision test as well as drug and alcohol screening. A new law provides veterans’ preference for these seasonal roles; veterans are encouraged to apply.

Selections will be based on availability, job-related experience, and qualifications. For more information about specific district positions, pay details, potential benefits or the application process click here.

A short animated video about the snowbird program can be found on IDOT’s YouTube channel.
