A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to Dekalb County on September 26, 2024. The request, made by us at DeKalb Times, sought comprehensive details about the county's vendor payments for the year.

In our pursuit of transparency and accountability in local government affairs, we requested records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. Specifically, we asked for a list of all payments made to vendors from January 1, 2024 till September 26, 2024.

The fields we requested include Vendor Name, Transaction Date, Transaction Description, and Amount. These details are crucial in understanding how public funds are being utilized and managed within the county.

As a media organization dedicated to providing accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, access to such public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. We believe that these records will enable us to provide greater transparency to the public and hold public institutions accountable.

We have also appealed for a fee waiver as a media professional given our role in disseminating information to the public.

We eagerly await Dekalb County's response and remain committed to reporting on these matters with accuracy and fairness.
