Today in Peoria, Illinois, Tyrese L. Walker, 23, faced charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding after leading police on a high-speed chase exceeding 100 mph through busy city streets. The State's petition to detain Walker was approved at today's detention hearing, meaning he will remain in custody until his trial.

The incident began around 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday when police responded to the 3400 block of W. Fallen Oak Lane. Walker was reportedly found sleeping in a car with a rifle visible inside. Upon being awakened by officers, Walker fled the scene, hitting another vehicle during his escape. He then drove recklessly through several city streets, disregarding traffic signals and reaching speeds of 100 mph.

Officers ceased their pursuit but utilized Flock cameras to track him to the East Bluff area. There, Walker was apprehended following a short foot chase. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun with a 30-round extended magazine and a rifle.

In addition to fleeing charges, Walker is charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon due to previous felony convictions in another county.

Authorities continue to investigate this case. Individuals with information are encouraged to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
