FOIA Request to City of Havana Regarding New and Active Residential and Commercial Building Permits on October 30, 2024.
As part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Peoria Standard have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the City of Havana in Illinois. The request was made under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
Our request seeks information about all new residential and commercial building permits issued from January 1, 2023, up until the present date. We are specifically interested in obtaining data regarding the type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name for each permit.
In addition to this, we also requested details about all currently active residential and commercial building permits along with their status. The fields we are interested in for these active permits mirror those for the new permits: type of permit, date issued, fee paid, requester's name, address, and contractor's name.
Access to public records is essential for us at Peoria Standard to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization disseminating information to the public, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per media professional guidelines.
We will continue to follow up on this request and keep our readers updated on any developments.
