Santa Claus Parade prompts downtown road closures in Peoria

Numerous roads in Downtown will be closed on Friday, November 29, for the Santa Claus Parade. The event is sponsored by Peoria Area Community Events (P.A.C.E.) and begins at 9:15 a.m., with road closures starting as early as 7 a.m. and lasting until noon.

Parking restrictions will be enforced along the parade route. Drivers are advised to use caution and consider alternative routes or marked detours.

The parade will start at Hancock Street and N.E. Monroe Street, proceed west down N.E. Monroe Street to Main Street, then travel south on Main Street to N.E. Adams Street before concluding at Hamilton Boulevard.

Road closures beginning at 7 a.m. include Hancock Street from N.E. Jefferson Avenue to N.E. Monroe Street; N.E. Madison Avenue from Bryan Street to Wayne Street; N.E. Monroe Street from Bryan Street to Wayne Street; and Bryan Street from N.E. Monroe Street to N.E. Jefferson Avenue.

At 9 a.m., additional closures will affect areas such as N.E. Monroe Street from Bryan Street to Fulton Street; Spalding Avenue at N.E. Monroe Street; Fayette Street at N.E Perry Avenue; Hamilton Boulevard from N.E Perry Avenue to N.E Washington Street; Main street from N.E Perry Avenue to N.W Washington street among others.

Detour routes suggest through traffic on S.W Adams street should travel north on NE Washington street and north on Eaton street, while traffic on NE Jefferson avenue should go north on Spalding avenue, west on NE Glendale avenue, and southwest on North William Kumpf boulevard.
