Rainfall in Peoria has led to a combined sewer overflow into the Illinois River within the past 24 hours. This was reported by the City of Peoria, affecting areas downstream from Detweiller Marina. Residents are advised to avoid full-body contact with the river in these locations.

The warning emphasizes the risk of illness from swallowing water while engaging in activities such as swimming, jet skiing, or water skiing following a combined sewer overflow event.

The city is actively working on projects aimed at reducing these overflows during wet weather conditions. These efforts are part of compliance with the Clean Water Act and the CSO Consent Decree.
