FOIA Request to Will County Sheriff's Department Regarding 2024 Arrest Records on January 7, 2025.
As a part of our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Peoria Standard have sent a request under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) to the Will County Sheriff's Department. The request, sent on January 7, 2025, asks for a list of all arrests made in the county from January 1, 2024 till December 31, 2024.
The requested information includes specific fields such as the arrestee's name, arrest date, gender, race, date of birth and the crime committed. This data is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
Given our role in disseminating information to the public as a media organization, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as per the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act. We await a positive response from the Will County Sheriff's Department regarding this request.
