Man charged in armed robbery during Facebook Marketplace transaction

January 10, 2025, Peoria, IL – Tobias W. Taylor, 24, has been charged with aggravated robbery for allegedly stealing four pairs of shoes at gunpoint during a Facebook Marketplace transaction. A detention hearing took place where the State’s Petition to Detain was granted, ensuring that Taylor will remain in custody until his trial.

The incident occurred around 6 pm on October 26, 2024. Police were called to the Knollridge Apartment Complex in North Peoria following reports of an armed robbery. The victim recounted to police that he had arranged a sale for shoes listed on Facebook Marketplace. Upon meeting at the agreed location, two males confronted him. One suspect demanded the shoes under threat that his companion would shoot if not complied with; it was then that the second male revealed a handgun. The victim surrendered the shoes and both suspects fled the scene.

During their investigation, police identified Taylor as a suspect and he was later recognized by the victim as one of the robbers involved.

The investigation is still active. Authorities urge anyone with information about this incident to contact the Peoria Police Department at 309-673-4521.
