FOIA Request to Stark County Sheriff's Office Regarding Immigration Detainer Records Issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency on January 29, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Peoria Standard have submitted a request for records under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. The request was sent to the Stark County Sheriff's Office in Illinois on January 29, 2025.
The requested documents pertain specifically to persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued against them by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency since January 29, 2024. These records are essential for us in order to continue our mission of holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public.
As a media organization, we believe that access to such public records is crucial for fulfilling our professional responsibilities. We have therefore requested these documents preferably in electronic format and also asked for a fee waiver as a media professional.
