FOIA Request to Peoria County Sheriff's Office Regarding Immigration Detainer Records Issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency on January 29, 2025.
As part of our ongoing commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have sent a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Peoria County Sheriff's Office. The request, sent on January 29, 2025, seeks documents and/or records showing persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024.
We believe that access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities, which include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. As a media organization involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, we requested a fee waiver for this information.
We are currently awaiting a response from the Peoria County Sheriff's Office regarding our request. We will continue our efforts to provide accurate and timely information about local government activities in order to keep our readers informed about issues that matter most in their community.
