FOIA Request to Woodford County Sheriff's Office Regarding Immigration Detainer Records on January 29, 2025.
In a recent move to ensure transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, we at the Peoria Standard have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the Woodford County Sheriff's Office. The request, sent on January 29, 2025, seeks access to documents and records related to persons committed to county jails who have had an Immigration Detainer issued by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency lodged against them since January 29, 2024.
As a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage, we believe that access to public records is crucial for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. This includes holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency for the public.
Given our role in disseminating information, we have also requested a fee waiver as a media professional under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We await the response from the Woodford County Sheriff's Office and will continue our efforts in promoting transparency in local government affairs.
