The City of Peoria is bracing for severe weather expected to hit the area between 8-11 pm on Friday, March 14. The forecast includes strong thunderstorms with potential hazards such as damaging straight-line winds exceeding 75 mph, tornadoes, and hail up to two inches in diameter.

Public Works crews are prepared to respond once the storm passes and conditions are safe. They will focus on clearing debris from roadways, alleys, and sidewalks. If widespread damage occurs or there is a need for large-scale debris cleanup, operations will continue around the clock until further notice.

Residents needing to report downed trees or limbs blocking streets, alleys, or sidewalks can contact Public Works by phone at 309-494-8800 or via email at publicworks@peoriagov.org. Additionally, reports can be made through Peoria Cares by calling 309-494-2273 during specified hours, using the Peoria Cares App, or accessing the Peoria Cares Website Map.

Storm debris should be bundled with nonmetallic cordage, kept under five feet in length and under 50 pounds in weight. Debris should be placed at the curb on residents' regular GFL collection day.

Residents are also advised to avoid downed power lines due to high winds and report them immediately to Ameren Illinois at (800)-755-5000. It is crucial not to drive over or attempt to move downed power lines.
