The City of Peoria is set to launch its annual Mayor’s Youth Program on Monday, June 2, at Twin Towers Plaza Conference Room 420. The initiative targets students from Peoria Public Schools and aims to enhance community engagement through civic leadership.

The program offers a paid summer internship for students aged 16-18 in collaboration with the Department of Public Works. Participants will engage in beautification projects such as planting, mulching, and litter removal across different city areas over eight weeks.

Each Friday, the program includes educational and career exploration activities. These sessions involve visits to local colleges and trade schools, tours of healthcare and manufacturing facilities, and presentations by guest speakers.

"The Mayor’s Youth Program is dedicated to strengthening the community through civic leadership," according to the press release. It also emphasizes "working together to broaden impact" while promoting "continuous learning" and valuing "youth-led public service."
