Numerous roads in downtown Peoria will be closed on Tuesday, November 11, for the Veterans Day Parade. The parade, sponsored by the American Legion Post 2, is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with road closures starting at 9 a.m. and lasting until noon.
According to city officials, parking restrictions will be enforced along the parade route. Drivers are advised to use caution and patience in the area and consider using alternative routes or marked detours.
The parade will start at the intersection of W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue and N. William Kumpf Boulevard before proceeding northeast on S.W. Monroe Street, southeast on Main Street, then northeast on N.E. Adams Street, concluding at Hamilton Boulevard. After the parade ends, a ceremony will take place at the Peoria County Courthouse.
At 9 a.m., W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue will close between N. Hightower Street and N. William Kumpf Boulevard.
Additional closures beginning at 9:45 a.m. include:
- Intermittent traffic flow on N. William Kumpf Boulevard managed by police at W. Romeo B. Garrett Avenue and S.W. Monroe Street.
- Monroe Street closed from N. William Kumpf Boulevard to Hamilton Boulevard.
- Jefferson Avenue closed from Fulton Street to Hamilton Boulevard.
- Adams Street closed from Fulton Street to Hamilton Boulevard.
- Main Street closed from N.E. Perry Avenue to N.E. Washington Street.
- N.E. Madison Avenue closed at Hamilton Boulevard.
- Fulton Street closed at S.W. Madison Avenue.
Detour routes have been established for through traffic:
- S.W. Adams Street traffic should use S.W. Washington Street from Liberty Street.
- N.E. Jefferson Avenue traffic should use S.W. Washington Street from Hamilton Boulevard.
- Both N.E Monroe and Madison Avenues should use S.W Washington St from Hamilton Blvd.
"Drivers should exercise caution and patience along the parade route," city officials stated in their announcement regarding event logistics.
The city encourages residents traveling through downtown during these hours to plan ahead due to these temporary changes.
