Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver appeared on WTTW's "Chicago Tonight" to discuss the recent passage of a $1.5 billion transit funding bill affecting the Chicago area. During the program, Weaver expressed concerns about how the legislation impacts downstate Illinois communities.
"I believe that the people I represent, along with all of downstate Illinois, got absolutely robbed on this. The road fund split that is typically 55-45 for downstate is now 85-15 for Chicagoland, and that is not fair," said Weaver.
The new transit package significantly changes both funding and governance structures for major Chicago-area transportation agencies, including CTA, Metra, and Pace. Weaver was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois' 93rd House District in 2023, succeeding Norine Hammond.
