PERU ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT 124 BOARD OF EDUCATION

BUILDING AND GROUNDS COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES

PARKSIDE SCHOOL CONFERENCE ROOM

MONDAY, MAY 9, 2016, 7:30 A.M.

Present: Simon Kampwerth, C.G. Pillai, Rob Ankiewicz

Others Present: Mark Cross

The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Simon Kampwerth at 7:35 a.m.

? Mr. Cross provided the committee with a draft of a Building and Grounds Maintenance Plan for 2016 through 2018. Now that the building construction, addition and renovation projects are complete, he and Committee Chair Simon Kampwerth are recommending a return to the traditional maintenance plan. Mr. Cross stated that he would like to develop this as more of a long-term plan that is constantly updated as the district moves forward.

? Each item for both buildings was reviewed and discussed. Particular focus was placed on the need to further investigate if water softeners should be installed at each building, as well as finishing the security film installation. Also discussed was the need for refinishing of the Parkside parking lots and the installation of window shades at Northview.

? Additional discussion was held regarding the potential need for physical education and athletic facilities, including practice fields at Parkside. The consideration of landscaping for Parkside including trees along the west side entrance area, as well as the potential for a cooperative park area with the city was also discussed.

? The total estimated maintenance plan cost is roughly $150,000 between the two buildings, with most items considered routine maintenance. This total also includes a budget for the two maintenance contracts for the building HVAC systems.

? Mr. Cross emphasized the savings the district is already seeing as a result of the closing of Washington and the clean, modern, asbestos free buildings with Northview and Parkside.

? After reviewing the items and costs, the committee made a couple of changes and otherwise recommended the list for Board approval at the May 18, 2016 meeting.

Adjournment

The committee adjourned at 8:25 a.m
