A Regular Meeting of the City of Peoria’s Urban Forestry Advisory Board convened at 12:09 p.m.
Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at the Lester D. Bergsten Operations & Maintenance Facility located at 3505
N. Dries Lane, Peoria, Illinois.
CALL TO ORDER
Call to Order showed the following Urban Forestry Advisory Board Members in attendance:
Members Present: Chairman Sie Maroon, Board Member Joseph Keck, Board Member Ella Maxwell,
Board Member Amy McLaren, Board Member Michael Price, and Board Member Michael Wilkins. (6)
Members Absent: Board Member Jason Haupt, Board Member Jeff Hinchman, and Board Member
Richard Swigart. (3)
Others in attendance included Public Works Administrative Specialist Rebecca Alexander and Peter Kobak
from the City of Peoria Innovation Team. (2)
ANNOUNCEMENTS Peoria Public Works and the I-Team will launch the first ever CityFest on October
22, 2016, 4-8p.m. on Adams Street (between Pecan and Persimmon Streets). This event is free to all,
and marks the conclusion of the City’s green infrastructure pilot project. It honors the many citywide
efforts focus on revitalizing Peoria.
This event is being held in conjunction with Limelight EventPlex/Working Man Productions, One Water
Peoria and WWCT FM & Media Partners.
PUBLIC COMMENT No one came forward to address the Board from the public.
MINUTES
The Minutes of the Meeting of September 6, 2016 were distributed prior to the meeting. The minutes were
approved by Board Member Amy McLaren, and seconded by Board Member Michael Wilkins.
ITEM NO. 1 Research and Identification of PUFAB Board Requirements
Peter Kobak provided a copy of the Peoria Urban Forestry Advisory Board Code of Ordinances.
Section 29- 31, 32, and 33. The ordinance explains the creation, membership, appointment of Board
Members, terms and filling of vacancies. It further identifies the general duties of Board Members, and
rules of procedure.
Board Member Ella Maxwell made a motion to accept the adoption of the current ordinance as created.
Chairman Maroon seconded the motion.
ITEM NO. 2 Update of Additional PUFAB Board Members
All attendees introduced themselves and their personal affiliation to the Board.
Board Member Aaron Coffeen has resigned from the Board, and an invitation to those interested in
volunteering as a Board Member has been extended.
Those interested in volunteering as a Board Member for the Peoria Urban Forestry
Advisory Board may submit their request online via the City of Peoria website by accessing the following

ITEM NO. 3 Development of Landscape and Tree Ordinance
Review of the ordinance previously submitted to the City’s Legal Department will be done, and a meeting
will be scheduled to compare and contrast the previous ordinance to the existing one.
The Tree City USA program is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for
communities to manage and expand their public trees. Board Member Michael Wilkins expressed the
importance of achieving Tree City USA status by meeting the core standards of sound urban forestry
management. Strengthening the community’s involvement is a major goal in this program.

Consideration of a tree and shrub ordinance has been tabled at this time.
Next Meeting
The next regularly scheduled meeting for the Urban Forestry Advisory Board will be held
November 1, 2016.

There being no further discussion, Chairman Sie Maroon moved to adjourn the Regular Meeting of the
Urban Forestry Advisory Board; seconded by Administrative Specialist Rebecca Alexander.
