Waukegan schedules special council meeting on federal immigration enforcement

Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham has called a special meeting of the Waukegan City Council in response to recent federal immigration enforcement actions in the city. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, October 27, 2025, at 7:00 PM and will take place at Waukegan City Hall, located at 100 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.

According to the mayor's office, this decision follows consultations with alderpersons and residents. "After consulting with the alderpersons and residents, Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham is convening a special meeting of the Waukegan City Council in response to federal immigration enforcement in Waukegan," said the statement from city officials.

Residents are encouraged to attend and participate in the discussion regarding these developments. Those unable to be present in person can watch the meeting live or view a recording on the city's YouTube channel at youtube.com/@WaukeganTV.

The city emphasized its commitment to involving community members in important local issues by providing multiple ways for residents to follow council proceedings.
