Peoria County’s 32nd Annual Gerald M. Brookhart Arts in Education Spring Celebration (GMB Spring Celebration) will run from April 18-May 24.
Events will take place at the Peoria County Courthouse Plaza every weekday from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
The annual tradition allows fine arts educators from throughout the Central Illinois region to present the work of their pre-K-12 students at no cost. Throughout the five-week program, performances will take place in the courthouse's open air venue, running on two or three concurrent stages.
In 2014, the celebration was renamed to honor Regional Superintendent Gerry Brookhart, who established the event more than three decades ago. Previous celebrations have included PreK-12 students from more than seven counties to present classroom plays, dances, Readers Theater, spring musicals and writing classes, amongst many other forms of artistic expression. This year’s edition will also again feature a collaboration with Sculpture Walk Peoria.
The event is coordinated by Peoria County Regional Office of Education, Peoria County Regional Superintendent Beth Derry and Project Director Mary Rous. Those interested in organizing a student presentation during the celebration or supporting the event should contact Rous at 309-253-2020.
