Assistant House Minority Leader Norine Hammond (R-Macomb) will branch out in her efforts to build a stronger higher education system in Illinois through a recent appointment to the Underrepresented Groups in Academia Task Force, according to press release.
“Examining ways to increase representation in higher education from minority groups is a topic on which I look forward to working,” Hammond said, according to the release. “We need to constantly be looking at ways to use higher education as a way to lift up communities and inculcate the next generation of industry leaders with a world-class skill set right here in Illinois.”
Hammond co-sponsored the House joint resolution that led to the establishment of the task force, which will work to ensure that minority students have access to higher education services and programs. Hammond hopes the programs will promote economic growth in the state by creating future leaders with a strong academic background and marketable skills.
