City of Peoria Springdale Cemetery Management Authority met July 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the Authority:

Authority Members Present for Roll Call: Becky Doubleday; Pat Powers; Bob Manning, Vice Chairman; Matt Ryan; Jim Stuttle, Treasurer;

Absent from Roll Call: Linda Daley; Connie Frank; Steve Kerr, Chairman; Garth Madison, Secretary

Also In Attendance: Mark Matuszak, General Manager; Monica Jones, Staff; Interested Citizens

In the absence of Chairman Kerr, Vice Chairman Manning called the meeting to order at 4:05 p.m. in the Springdale Cemetery meeting room in the Volunteer and Maintenance Building on Tuesday, June 18, 2017.

A roll call of Authority members was taken and Vice Chairman Manning announced there was a quorum.

Vice Chairman Manning asked all in attendance to please stand and join in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Approval Of June 20, 2017 Regular Meeting Minutes:

Mr. Stuttle made a motion to approve the minutes of the June 20, 2017 regular meeting with two minor corrections on page 2.

“The last private mausoleum door (of four) has been painted by John Kettleborough.” – should be Don, not John.

“We received a letter from the Illinois Nature Reserves Commission.” – should be Preserves, not reserves.

Mr. Ryan seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Public Comment:

None.

Savanna Update:

Mike Rucker, Peoria Wilds steward, reported a huge limb had fallen and was cut up with a chain saw and stacked for the Springdale staff to haul away.

Mr. Stuttle inquired about replanting trees in the Savanna. Mr. Ruckle explained the last seedlings that were planted unfortunately perished because of an inadequate water supply.

General Manager’s Report:

Mark Matuszak distributed his report (which is attached hereto and made a part of these Minutes) and answered questions from the Authority.

· Burials for the month - 6 total - 3 full/3 cremains.

· Distributed a copy of the News Release and Invitation to the new Front Entrance Dedication on August 4, 2017 and reported the majority of invitations will be emailed.

· The records preservation project will hopefully get back on track very soon.

· The City of Peoria has looked at drainage and has identified problem areas. One drain was repaired recently.

· A sewer pump repair and/or replacement may be necessary in the near future. A much larger pump is needed.

· Take a look at the new truck “wrap” that was recently put on the new pick-up truck.

Treasurer’s Report:

Mr. Stuttle reported on checks written in June and reviewed the financial reports with the Authority.

Approval Of Checks Written:

Mr. Ryan made a motion to receive and file the June 2017 check register and checks written in the amount of $39,448.11. Ms. Doubleday seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Approval Of Financial Report:

Mr. Ryan made a motion to receive and file the June 2017 financial statements. Ms. Powers seconded. Motion passed by unanimous voice vote.

Report of Committee Chairs:

Investment/Finance:

No report.

Monument Restoration:

No report.

Historic Preservation Foundation:

Ms. Powers reported the Peoria Historic Preservation Commission has approved the Bastow Petherbridge steps restoration. Ms. Powers distributed a photo of the area pointing out a very large tree that needs to be removed. The lowest bid received to remove the tree is $2,400. Cemetery staff would then haul the debris away. Mr. Matuszak suggested the Foundation speak with the IGA regarding funding for the tree removal.
