Meet

City of Chillicothe Economic Development met August 7.

Here is the minutes as provided by the committee:

The Economic Development Committee & Public Safety Committee held a joing meeting on

August 7th at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.

Present: Chairman Dan Colwell, Mayor White, Aldermen Connor, Hughes, and Sharpe, City

Clerk Margaret Hurd, Economic Development Director Parker, Office Manager

Passage, Police Chief Mettille and Fire Chief Denzer and City attorney Mike Seghetti

Absent: Alderman Jenkins

Meeting was called to order at 4:40 p.m. The only agenda item was the Bacon Building. Mayor

White asked the attorney to explain what process the city went through when they acquired the

3rd Street property. Attorney Seghetti went through those steps. In addition to that he stated

what expenses the city incurred which were: approximately $2,000 in legal fees, $11,000 in

liens, $200 in supplies, and office manager Passage added $770.76 in water bills, and

approximately $400 – 500 in labor and not sure of the total on engineering fees for the report.

Attorney Seghetti said that the City would need to give everyone proper notice twice, if they

don’t respond then the City could go after the property as abandoned property. File the

necessary paperwork and get possession of the building.

Discussion took place on how bad of shape the property is in and how much garbage and debris

is in the building. Both the Fire Chief and the Police Chief have been in the building and know

its current state.

Mayor White stated that he would recommend, if we take possession of property, we get roof

fixed then have the place cleaned out (contracted – not cleaned out by city workers) then the

property may be more marketable.

Census was to instruct the attorney to prepare the documents for abandoned property for the

Bacon Building.

There being no further business meeting adjourned at 5:12 p.m.
