City of West Peoria Transportation Committee met December 20.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

1. Chair Silver called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

2. Members present were: Chair Silver, Alderpersons Goranson and Thomas. Also present were City Administrator Krider, Street Department Manager Strube, Alderpersons Leroy Dohm, Jeff Reagan, John Siewert, and Deputy Clerk Barnes.

3. There were no Additions to/or Deletions from the Agenda

4. Motion to approve the minutes of the November 15, 2017 meeting was made by Alderperson Thomas and seconded by Alderperson Goranson. Motion carried.

5. Motion to receive and file the monthly Financial Report was made by Alderperson Goranson and seconded by Alderperson Thomas. Motion carried.

6. Reports

a. City Engineer's Report: In the absence of the City Engineer, Chair Silver read her report. He requested that Storm Sewer Mapping be left on the agenda for next month, when it will be decided whether to move forward with the project in 2018.

b. Street Department Manager Strube reported that the sweeping of the streets has been completed, and the sweeper needs to have some maintenance done on it. He is also going to try the enhanced salt when the salt bin gets emptier. Enhanced salt is going to be part of the future: It is more environmentally friendly and causes less corrosion for cars, although currently there is an up-charge of $40/ton for it. Question: Will it help with our contribution of salt in the sewer system? Not entirely known at this time, though it should help with salt mitigation.

7. Public Comment: What happened to the truck on Pierson that was burned? The driver said the car burned on the way up the hill. It was towed the next day.

Just a suggestion, that when the Storm sewers need to be mapped to try to make it less expensive, try using an intern so we can get around the prevailing wage.

8. Old Business

a. Sidewalk Petition: Since it was approved at last Council Meeting, next thing to do is get ready for bids to go out – somewhere late January, early February. For information: Residents came in to voice their concerns about the wrap-around at the end of Dixon on the left.

9. New Business: Speed of drivers along Manor from Sterling all along the way is very fast. Perhaps there should be a stop sign placed somewhere there. Maybe Public Safety could put it on their agenda for 2018.

10. Public Comment: Merry Christmas!

11. A motion to adjourn was made by Alderperson Goranson, at 5:45 p.m. and seconded by Alderperson Thomas. Motion carried unanimously.

The next regular meeting of the Transportation Committee is Wednesday January 17, 2018.
