Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) passed HR743 to salute the 4A state champions in football.

“I would say that anyone who grows up playing in sports when they were a kid imagines themselves hitting the last second shot or walk-off home run,” Butler said at a House floor debate on March 6. “The Rochester Rockets football team is here for the second year in a row and have won a state title seven out of the last eight years.”

Butler said the Rochester Rockets was a wonderful football program that he and Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) have the opportunity to represent in the General Assembly.

“It’s a great honor for me to have them here today,” Butler said.

After citing some of the players' stats, the representative pointed out that Coach Derek Leonard was nominated for the Chicago Bears Don Shula Coach of the Year Award for his outstanding leadership on and off the field.

“He has put together a tremendous program this year in Rochester, and I just can’t say enough good things about this community,” Butler said. “Congratulations guys! Seven championships in eight years is historic.”
