Rep. Keith Sommer (R-Morton) had some distinct guests with him at the May 18 House floor debate.
“This is a special event today for some special individuals,” Morton said of the Heart of Morton group in the speaker’s gallery.
“Amongst them today are 16 developmentally disabled young adults from our community along with their parents and teacher,” he added.

Morton said they have never had the opportunity to visit their state Capitol in Springfield.
“The Heart of Morton is a program that takes these young adults when they have aged out of the public-school system at 22 and continues to provide education, community experience and work opportunities,” he said.
Morton encouraged a warm Springfield welcome to the group, which the House floor was glad to give a loud round of applause.
