CITY OF EL PASO: South Pointe Pool Update

Pool

City of El PAso issued the following announcement on June 19.

As many of you are aware, the South Pointe Park Pool has not yet opened for the summer. Back this Spring, work was done to repair covers for the pump suctions at the pool, which is now required by State law. This work, unknown to the City, required a permit from the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). Upon notification, the City immediately began working with an area vendor and their engineering firm to get the work/permit approved. Unfortunately, on Friday 06/15/18 we were notified that the State of Illinois had denied our permit. Immediate notifications were made on the City’s part to our normal engineering firm; Farnsworth Group. Over the weekend and all of today, City personnel and Farnsworth Group worked diligently to fix specifications, create engineering drawings, get required state signatures, and develop a new permit application. This new permit and paperwork will be delivered “in-person” on behalf of the City on Wednesday of this week. We are confident this will lead to the City getting approval from the State of Illinois to open. Once our permit is approved, it will take approximately 6-7 days to fill and test the chemicals at the pool to make it safe for use. We will do our best to keep all of you notified as we get more definitive information. Please know, the City is doing everything we can to get our pool open for all of you to enjoy this summer.
