WEST BLUFF COUNCIL: Officer Adrian Aguilar & Ann Bare to receive West Bluff Council Awards

Awrd

West Bluff Council issued the following announcement on June 25.

Neighborhood Officer Adrian Aguilar is to be awarded the 2018 West Bluff Council “Pillar of the West Bluff” Award and Ann Bare is the be awarded the 2018 Marj Klise Community Action Award this week.

The Pillar Award is presented each year to recognize individuals for outstanding service to Peoria’s West Bluff community. “The Awards Committee felt strongly that Officer Adrian Aguilar goes well beyond his professional assignments in serving West Bluff neighborhoods. He not only raises his family here, but has gone beyond the call of duty in helping to initiate the Peoria Police Athletic League Boxing Program as a way to mentor young people,” said West Bluff Council Awards Committee Chairman Dan Pelphrey. “Ann Bare is a rock star of the West Bluff. She has organized a joint Neighborhood Night Out Against Crime Event at the end of Summer for several years, relieving city resources by teaming up with surrounding West Bluff neighborhoods to make the event larger each year. Ann has also been integrally involved in a new parking plan for Franklin School on Columbia Terrace.”

Neighborhood Officer Adrian Aguilar and Ann Bare are two of the finest examples of strong West Bluff advocates and leaders that serve their community well. Nominated by their neighbors, the Awards Committee reports it was a difficult task to select this year’s winners due to the volume and quality of nominations of West Bluff leaders for these awards. Officer Aguilar is the Peoria Police Department Resident Officer living within the Armstrong-Ellis Neighborhood Association, but serves all West Bluff neighborhoods, and Ann Bare is President of University East Neighborhood Association and a longtime community volunteer. Special recognition will also be made on June 28 of Gary Anna of Bradley University, a longtime West Bluff Council supporter and emissary between neighborhood groups and the University.

The Pillar of the West Bluff and Marj Klise Community Action Awards will be presented at the Thursday, June 28th meeting of the West Bluff Council, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Bob Michel Student Center Room 203 on the campus of Bradley University. The public is invited to attend.

The West Bluff Council is a pro-active community organization comprised of the 8 West Bluff neighborhood associations, the West Main Street Merchants Association and Bradley University. For more information, please call West Bluff Council Chairman Conrad Stinnett at 309-494-9821.
