Tazewell County Clerk: Slow voter turnout could rebound by election

Vote 07

Early voting began across Illinois for the 2018 general elections and there are fewer early voters in Tazewell County compared to the last two elections.

This year, 581 early voters and 2,127 mail-in voters have cast ballots. That’s down from the 2016 presidential election, where 7,618 early voters and 3,544 mail-in voters cast ballots.

Tazewell County Clerk Moira Hartley said, “Turnout was not as good, but it is still almost a month until the election.”

In 2014, the last midterm election, 2,452 residents cast early ballots and 3,028 voted by mail.

Early voting across Illinois started Sept. 27 and will go through Nov. 5, the day before the election.
