City of Marquette Heights Council met Oct. 8.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

PLEDGE

The City Council meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Mayor Crum.

CALL TO ORDER

The regular meeting of the City Council was called to order at 7:00 P.M. by Mayor Crum.

ROLL CALL

The following Aldermen were present for Roll Call: Alderman Worent, Little, Neuhaus, Neumann, and Bradford.

Also present: Treasurer Babb, Clerk Steele, Public Works Director Ghidina, Police Chief Elliott, Sgt. Merritt, Fire Chief Fortier, Office Manager Minson, and Attorney Herman.

Absent: Alderman Conlin

PRESENTATION OF JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS

Alderman Neumann made a motion, seconded by Alderman Neuhaus to approve the regular minutes of September 24, 2018. Roll Call Vote: Ayes- Alderman Neumann, Neuhaus, Little and Bradford. Alderman Worent abstained. Nays- None. Motion passed.

Alderman Neuhaus made a motion, seconded by Alderman Bradford to approve the executive minutes of September 24, 2018. Roll Call Vote: Ayes- Alderman Neuhaus, Bradford, Little, and Neumann. Alderman Worent abstained. Nays- None. Motion passed.

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

Mayor

Mayor Crum expressed thoughts and prayers for Alderman Conlin and his family for their loss of Alderman Conlin’s brother-in-law.

Mayor Crum contacted the Rec Association regarding maintenance at the ball diamonds. An update will be delivered as soon as the Rec Association gets back with him.

Clerk

No report from Clerk Steele.

Treasurer

No report from Treasurer Babb.

Attorney

No report from Attorney Herman.

Communications

On 9/27/18, Bonnie Mason, 200 Rogers Road, brought in donuts for the public works department in appreciation of the awesome job she said was done at her driveway approach.

CITIZENS WISHING TO ADDRESS THE COUNCIL:

Men’s Club President Scott Little was present to address any concerns about the upcoming Spook Hollow event this month. He gave information on the planned activities. The Men’s Club ATM in the city office foyer will be taken to the Spook Hollow building on Wednesday. Plaques are being updated in recognition of the 40th year Spook Hollow celebration. Bridgeway Church will apply for a fire permit and will be in charge of a bonfire on October 27th.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:

Water and Sewer – Alderman Bradford

Well #4 is down. Well 6 is running.

Law Enforcement – Alderman Neumann

The window will not roll all the way down on squad 13-2.

Streets – Alderman Neuhaus

Outfall work is almost complete at 105 Yates Road. Curb work is done. Blacktopping is all that is left.

Public Buildings / Parks -Alderman Conlin

Absent. No report.

Fire – Alderman Little

The operations and business report is on file.

The monthly TCFA meeting will be Wednesday, October 10th at Liberty Hall.

Planning – Alderman Worent

No report.

OLD BUSINESS

NEW BUSINESS

APPROVE resolution to sell squad vehicle

Alderman Neumann made a motion, seconded by Alderman Little to approve the sale of a 2011 Chev Impala squad vehicle to Andrew Wallen for a sum of $2,307.00. Roll Call Votes: Ayes- Alderman Neumann, Little, Bradford, Worent, and Neuhaus. Nays-None. Motion passed.

APPROVE ordinance to allow sale of three city owned commercial properties

Alderman Worent made a motion, seconded by Alderman Bradford to table this motion at this time. Ayes-Alderman Worent, Bradford, Neumann, Neuhaus, and Little. Nays-None. Motion passed.

APPROVE payment for fire department garage door opener

Alderman Neuhaus made a motion, seconded by Alderman Little to approve a $1,500.00 payment to Greg’s Garage Door Service for west overhead garage door opener at the fire station. Ayes- Alderman Neuhaus, Little, Bradford, Neumann, and Worent. Nays-None. Motion passed.

APPROVE fire alarm inspection payment

Alderman Neuhaus made a motion, seconded by Alderman Little to approve a $585.00 payment to Turnbull Electronics for annual on-site fire alarm inspection. Ayes-Alderman Neuhaus, Little, Neumann, Worent, and Bradford. Nays-None. Motion passed.

APPROVE payment to Ruyle Electrical

Alderman Neuhaus made a motion, seconded by Alderman Neumann to approve a payment not to exceed $1,800.00 to Ruyle Electrical for installing breakers and running new wire for the city offices and library a/c units. Ayes-Alderman Neuhaus, Neumann, Worent, Bradford, and Little. Nays-None. Motion passed.

FINANCE – ALDERMAN WORENT

Alderman Worent made a motion, seconded by Alderman Bradford to approve paying bills: General Fund: $41,946.81, Water: $15,915.26, Sewer: $20,375.62, Water/Sewer Replacement: $888.41, Motor Fuel: $.00, Audit Fund: $.00, Wheel Tax: $663.33, IMRF: $1,842.78, and Social Security: $2,017.89. Roll Call Vote: Ayes – Alderman Worent, Bradford, Little, Neuhaus, and Neumann. Nays – None. Motion passed.

CITIZENS WISHING TO ADDRESS THE COUNCIL

None

ANY OTHER BUSINESS PERTAINING TO THE CITY

Alderman Little made a motion, seconded by Alderman Neumann enter executive session for the purpose of discussing possible sale and/or purchase of land. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes.

Council exited regular session and entered executive session at 7:20 p.m.

Council resumed regular session at 7:46 p.m.

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Bradford made a motion, seconded by Alderman Little to adjourn the regular City Council meeting at 7:48 p.m. Voice Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed.
