Brimfield Community Unit School District 309 Board met Oct. 17.

The Brimfield Board of Education held its regular meeting on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Library. Board President Heinz called the meeting to order with the following members present: Hoerr, Thompson, Kenney, Updyke, Johnson, and Graham.
The meeting began with the following visitors introducing themselves:
Kenney moved and Updyke seconded to approve the September 19, 2018 Regular and Closed Session, and September 25, 2018 Building & Grounds Committee.
Motion carried
Heinz reported on his report. He noted that the future teacher appreciation will be held on Oct 24. He mentioned the time/place/location and the remainder of the agenda for that evening.
Thompson elaborated on the recent Building & Grounds Committee Meeting. He discussed that there has been a delay with the distribution of the Architect’s packet. The 90% bid documents should be delivered around October 29. Snow removal was discussed; Brimfield is in discussion the current handlers on how to be better equipped. The concern with how to handle the composite pictures was addressed. They will be kept.
Hoerr discussed the Finance Committee, also held recently. They had met with Mesirow Financial to discuss the interest rates on the building bonds. Also addressed was how to finance the HVAC project.
Superintendent Richardson reported on his board report.
Mr. Shinall reported on the High School Principal Report. He noted that the varsity football team’s playoff game will be televised on Comcast sports!
Mr. Juchems reported on his Grade School Principal report.
Hoerr moved and Kenney seconded to approve the FFA Field Trip out-of-state between 10/24/2018 - 10/26/2018. Motion carried
Hoerr moved and Thompson seconded to approve that the closed session minutes be reviewed for Confidentiality. Roll Call: Hoerr- yes, Thompson- yes, Kenney-yes, Johnson-yes, Graham - yes, Updyke - yes, Heinz - yes. Motion carried
Updyke moved and Thompson seconded to approve Consent Calendar items. Roll Call: Hoerr- yes, Thompson- yes, Kenney-yes, Johnson-yes, Graham - yes, Updyke - yes, Heinz - yes. Motion carried
At 7:19pm, Johnson moved and Hoerr seconded to leave open session and enter closed session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of an employee Open Meetings Act, 5 ILCS 120, being Sec. 2 (c) Roll Call: Kenney-yes, Johnson-yes, Graham - yes, Thompson - yes, Updyke - yes, Hoerr - yes, Heinz - yes. Motion carried
The board members returned from closed session at 9:16pm.
Hoerr moved and Thompson seconded to approve the resignation of Whitney Edwards, Grade School Teacher’s Assistant with appreciation for time served. Roll Call: Hoerr- yes, Thompson- yes, Kenney-yes, Johnson-yes, Graham - yes, Updyke - yes, Heinz - yes. Motion carried
President Heinz welcomed comments from the community members.
-The Board addressed Marilyn Eberle’s concern about the boiler and the lack of heat (prior to Tuesday morning) at the Grade School.
-The Board addressed Dave Hicke’s issue regarding the boiler’s status, as worded in a previous report.
-The Board also addressed Phil Molleck’s inquiries about the efficiency of the new HVAC system the Grade School will be getting.
At 8:39 p.m. Updyke moved and Johnson seconded to adjourn the September 19, 2018 regular board meeting of the Brimfield CUSD #309 Board of Education. Motion carried
