City of Canton Board of Fire and Police Commissioners met Nov. 13.

Here is the minutes provided by the commissioners:

A regular meeting of the Canton Fire and Police Commission was held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018. The meeting was called to order at 1:07 p.m. by Commissioner Mayall.

Present: Commissioner Chad Mayall 

Public Safety Director Dick Fairburn

Commissioner Greg Gossett

Commissioner Samantha Norton

Public Participation- none

A Motion was made by Commissioner Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to accept the Minutes of the October 10, 2018 regular meeting and the October Budget. All Ayes, motion carried.

Training certificates: No certificates were presented.

Old Business –

Probationary Employees: Cody Johnson will be removed from the list since his probationary period will end on November 20. Chase Jones will be removed as well, since he has tendered his resignation for a position with the Urbana Fire Department. The commissioners signed Johnson’s letter of permanent appointment.

Bills: A Motion was made by Commission Norton seconded by Commissioner Gossett to pay the following bills:

To IPMA-HR in the amount of $ 225.00 for written testing materials for the Police Lieutenant testing cycle. To the IL Fire and Police Commission Association in the amount of $ 375.00 for the annual dues. To Chad Mayall in the amount of $ 728.65.00 for travel expenses and conference fees for the 2018 IL F&P Convention in Chicago. All Ayes, Motion carried.

Testing Cycles: The PD Sergeant testing will be completed soon after the 10-day window for preference points is reached and a final list is posted.

New Business : 1. With the retirement of Lieutenant Jay Smith, the Commission moved to promote a firefighter to the rank of Lieutenant to fill that vacancy. A Motion was made by Commissioner Gossett seconded by Commissioner Norton to promote Keith Deppermann to the rank of Fire Lieutenant. All Ayes, Motion Carried.

2. Discussion of preference point limits – this topic was tabled until further notice.

Having no other business, a Motion was made by Commissioner Mayall seconded by Commissioner Gossett to adjourn the meeting. All Ayes, motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 1:27 p.m.
