The Illinois Republican Party has named U.S. Rep. Darrin LaHood (R-Dunlap) Republican of the week.
“Congressman LaHood's record throughout his public service has resonated a strong, conservative record, promoting economic development and fiscal responsibility,” party chairman Tim Schneider said in announcing the honor. “LaHood has been an outspoken advocate for creating a better business climate in Illinois to boost the state and national economy, to create jobs for Illinoisans.”
Prior to becoming a Congressman in the 18th District, LaHood, born and raised in Peoria, served in the Illinois State Senate from 2011-2015. During his tenure, he pushed for greater transparency and ethical behavior from lawmakers by sponsoring legislation aimed at creating term limits in Springfield. Before that, he spent nine years serving as a state and federal prosecutor.

LaHood recently had the honor of chairing the National Republican Congressional Committee's (NRCC) annual spring dinner, where President Trump gave the keynote address and signaled him out for special praise. The NRCC is the political arm of the Republican caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives.
The 18th District spans 19 counties across central and west-central Illinois, ranging from McLean County (Bloomington-Normal) to Adams County (Quincy).
