City of Lacon City Council met March 11.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

Acting Mayor John Wabel opened the meeting with the pledge of allegiance. Answering roll call were Aldermen: Jason, Hattan; Modro; Wabel and Strawn. City Clerk Anderle and Treasurer Terri Davis were also present. Alderman Hoskins was absent.

Approval of Minutes

Alderman Hattan moved to approve the minutes for the February 11, 2019 Regular City Council meeting. Alderman Jason seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Pay Monthly Bills

Alderman Strawn moved to authorize payment of bills as presented. Alderman Modro seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

New Business

Ben Carlson, Minister from Christ New Covenant Church asked the council for approval to use Johnson’s Park for an event on July 6th with entertainment, food and a water balloon throwing contest. Ben stated they will provide the food and balloons and will clean-up park of all balloons. Alderman Hattan made a motion to approve the event on July 6th at Johnson’s Park. Alderman Strawn seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Alderman Strawn made a motion to approve a River Run event on July 6th at the Lacon Marina from 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m., sponsored by Malin Creemens. Alderman Modro seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Travis McGlassen, President of the Midland Summer Ball program addressed the council requesting a donation for the ball programs 2019 season. Alderman Strawn made a motion to approve a donation of $2,500 to the Midland Summer Ball program. Alderman Hattan seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Alderman Strawn made a motion to approve the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Johnson’s Park on April 20th at 1:00 p.m. with an expenditure of $600. Alderman Modro seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Alderman Strawn reported the city received 5 bids for the 2019 Mowing Season. Strawn stated that bidders did not provide proof of workers compensation insurance and or price for mowing season. Strawn recommends we reject all bids and rerun the ad for two weeks and include in the ad insurance must be provided at time of bid and bid is for mowing season not per mow. Alderman Strawn made a motion to reject all bids and rerun the ad for two weeks. Alderman Hattan seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Alderman Modro made a motion to approve the revised 2019 Regular Council Meeting dates. Alderman Strawn seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.

Alderman Reports

Alderman Strawn reported the city is in the process of removing 22 trees throughout town that have been approved for removal by the city arborist. Strawn stated the building & grounds committee are considering options for the building at 112 Marina Drive.

Alderman Modro stated she will be having a Finance Committee meeting Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at 6:30 p.m., preparing for FY 2019-2020 budget.

Clerk Anderle reported to the council that Crankers Bass Club would like to use the Lacon Marina on Sunday, July 14th from 6:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. for a bass fishing tournament. Council approved.

Alderman Strawn moved to adjourn at 7:36 p.m. Aldermen Modro seconded. Roll call: 5 ayes.
