City of Chillicothe Public Works Committee met June 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The public works committee met on June 5, 2019, at 4:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall.

Present: Chairman Gould, Alderman Sharp, Alderman Hughes, City Engineer Coulter

Superintendent Sutherland, Office Manager Passage

Chairman Gould called the meeting to order.

PUBLIC COMMENT

HIGH USAGE WAIVER

Office Manager Passage stated that she has not received any high usage waiver requests.

SIDEWALK PROGRAM APPLICATIONS

Office Manager Passage presented the following applications:

Justin Dwyer 1015 Santa Fe City share $1,000.00

John Brian 1110 Fletcher City share $ 960.00

Superintendent Sutherland advised the committee that at 1110 Fletcher they are making another driveway approach.

The consensus of the committee was to present to the city council the applications for approval.

TREE/MOFFITT/CUTRIGHT

Mr. Tim Worrick addressed the committee regarding the tree at Moffitt and Cutright. He is the owner of the house that the tree is in front of and does not want the tree removed. He stated that the tree is the only tree he has that gives his house shade. He stated that he is willing to maintain the tree. Superintendent Sutherland stated the tree was marked for remove as part of the right tree right place grant the city obtain through Ameren. Superintendent Sutherland stated that he talked with the people who will be removing the tree and they said the tree was dying and only had a few years of life left. Alderman Sharp stated that since the tree is on the city’s right of way it is the responsibility of the City to take care of city property. A discussion ensued regarding the life of the tree and whether to remove it from the list to be cut down. Alderman Hughes stated as an option we could have Alderman Connor’s husband look at the tree. After discussion, the Mayor recommended that the tree be taken off the list of removal and asked that the Superintendent Sutherland add a different tree to the list. The consensus of the committee was that they agreed to remove said tree from the list to be cut down and have Superintendent Sutherland as another tree to the list.

DUMP TRUCK

Superintendent Sutherland stated that he did not receive the information he need for this topic and withdrew this agenda item.

PROJECT UPDATE

City engineer Coulter stated that the ada sidewalk work should begin in approximately a week. He stated that he is working on the project of seal coating Azbell Street.

He reported that he will be looking at the drainage at Cloverdale and Whiteclover.

Chairman Gould stated that he received a phone call regarding the drainage at Second and Cloverdale. Engineer Coulter stated he will look at that area also.

The Mayor reported that he received information from I.D.O.T. stating that they will be repaving route 29 from Senachwine creek to Sparland.

The Mayor reported that the City was awarded the Grant to replace the sidewalk at the City Park on Second Street and Cedar Street.
