East Peoria Chamber Of Commerce issued the following announcement on Nov. 8.
If you want to see one of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales up close, you'll have your chance during the Hitch Against Hunger event, weather permitting, in The Levee District from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22.
Hitch Against Hunger will allow people to have a photo taken with a Clydesdale in exchange for a canned food item, which will be given to the Sophia’s Kitchen food pantry. Be sure to bring your own camera. The appearance of the Clydesdales at Hitch Against Hunger and in the Parade of Lights is sponsored by Brewers Distributing of Peoria.
The Clydesdale horse and its trailer will be located at the intersection of Washington and Richland streets, and the photos will be taken there. An East Peoria police squad car and fire department truck will also be on display and the officers will hand out holiday treats to children.
The Budweiser Clydesdales will be in town to appear, weather permitting, in the 35th annual Parade of Lights which occurs at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. It is the first time in 15 years that the Clydesdales will be in the parade.
To qualify to be on a Budweiser Clydesdale hitch, a Clydesdale must be a gelding with an even temperament, be at least four years old, stand at least 72 inches tall at the shoulder blades when fully mature, and weigh between 1,800 and 2,300 pounds.
