CITY OF ATLANTA: Launches Fix-It Phase 2 with Operation Clean Sweep

City of Atlanta issued the following announcement on Sept. 30.

The City of Atlanta is publicly launching Phase 2 of Fix-It Atlanta with Operation Clean Sweep. The Bottoms Administration is renewing and enhancing efforts under Operation Clean Sweep to improve the quality of life for Atlanta residents, businesses, and visitors through heighten clean-up and beautification efforts across the city. The City has repaired more than 26,000 potholes since Fix-It ATL was launched in 2018.

“Atlanta is a world-class city and each and every community in our city is worthy of looking and feeling that way,” said Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. “As we navigate the ‘now normal’ thrust upon us by this pandemic, it is now more important than ever that our communities are reminded that they have not been forgotten. Operation Clean Sweep is yet another way to enhance the neighborhoods throughout Atlanta.”

The City’s Department of Public Works, Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Transportation, Code Enforcement, and ATL311 have combined resources to better maintain the City’s public spaces and increase responsiveness to areas in need of focused attention.

Services under Operation Clean Sweep include cleaning up illegal dump sites and street litter, maintaining right-of-way areas, removing illegal signs, improving residential and bulk trash pick-up and other services.

City teams have been deployed to Lawton Street, Ashby Grove and Dargan Place on the Westside and conducted thorough de-littering and trimming operations, as well as a bulk removal and cleaning at an illegal dumping site near Dargan Place. Crews have also been deployed to Northwest Atlanta to clean and trim back overgrowth on Collier Drive and Linkwood Road.

City teams have also cleared out 188 tons of debris from 343 illegal dump sites around the city, de-littered and mowed more than 11 miles of right way at 103 locations, completed more than 1950 residential bulk collections, accounting for 440 tons of waste, and removed more than 550 illegal signs from the right of way.
