Chicago (91,406 cases) and Cook County (76,733 cases) posted the highest numbers statewide. Chicago's death toll from the virus stands at 3,025, while Cook County recorded 2,357 deaths, according to the IDPH.
Illinois residents who have been tested for COVID-19 now number 6,950,105, the department reported. And the age group with the most confirmed cases was 20 to 29, with 70,812 people in the age group testing positive for the virus.
Among all those testing positive in Illinois, 167,245 were male and 182,396 were female, the IDPH said. Male deaths linked to coronavirus numbered 5,023, while female deaths stood at 4,322.
Broken down according to race, the fatalities consisted of 4,625 Asians, 4,625 whites, 2,292 African-Americans, 1,813 Hispanics, and 222 belonging to other races or who did not provide their ethnicity before they died.
