Despite the challenges that have arisen during 2020 with the COVID-19 pandemic, Peoria County Animal Protection Services (PCAPS) continues its efforts to hlep and care for homeless animals.
PCAPS will be able to continue their services for the animals with a grant received from the Community Foundation of Central Illinois, Patch reported. This will help PCAPS to continue to shelter approximately 2,000 cats that come through the shelter during the winter.
Through the foundation, PCAPS received a $1,000 award from the Jean M. Ligon Animal Welfare Grant. PCAPS will use these funds to purchase beds to house more cats.
"We are excited to provide the shelter cats with a little bit more comfort during their stay at the shelter. Studies have shown that allowing cats a place to hide and to perch decreases their stress in the shelter and leads to overall better health, socialization, and well-being," PCAPS Director Becky Spencer told Patch.
