City of East Peoria issued the following announcement on Mar. 3.
Removal of the Pinecrest Drive bridge over Interstate 74 (exit 98) in East Peoria begins Friday, March 5.
The work will require lane closures in one or both directions between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday evening through Sunday morning for approximately four weeks. In addition, all lanes of I-74 in both directions will be closed at Pinecrest between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., with traffic detouring using the off- and on-ramps.
The work is part of a $9.6 million project to replace the Pinecrest Drive bridge. The new bridge will have a minimum clearance of 16 feet 6 inches, or two feet higher than the existing bridge. The entire project is expected to be complete in November.
Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered.
