Republican state Sen. Jil Tracy admits she’s waited far longer for this day to arrive than she ever imagined she’d have to.

“The Senate is in session this week and I’m very glad we are,” Tracy said in a video from the Capitol posted to YouTube. “It’s something that the Senate Republicans had been requesting.”

Tracy added she’s been more convinced than ever that lawmakers could safely convene in Springfield ever since they met for a lame duck session back in January that went off without a hitch.

“There were only minimal problems,” she added. “So we feel like there’s much to take care of. We’re meeting in committee that will lead to passing bills. We have much work to do and were doing it safely, observing protocols advised by the CDC.”
