Rep. Tim Butler is looking forward to Springfield getting back to business.

Appearing on News Radio WTAX on March 12, Butler (R-Springfield) said he sponsored at least two bills that he hopes will soon leave committee that could make life a bit easier for residents of his 87th District.

“I’ve got a bill called 'seat of government,' which will hopefully open up better lines of communications between the state and the communities of Springfield and Sangamon County about things that are happening,” he said. “I think there’s oftentimes a disconnect between [the] state government and the city of Springfield and Sangamon County. A lot of time, things happen community, and people are not aware of what’s going on."

Butler’s second proposal seeks to divide up Electoral College votes by Congressional District, replacing the current winner-take-all system.

Butler hinted he plans to be part of any effort that seeks to move Gov. J.B. Pritzker to allow businesses across the state more flexibility in reopening.

“I think people are starting to get optimistic about moving forward into the spring and summer months,” he said. “I hope the governor responds to some businesses, especially the tourist and convention industry, who’ve really suffered dramatically. They really need to get some of these regulations loosened up so they can start hosting people safely again.”
