State Rep. Ryan Spain (R-Peoria) is urging colleagues to continue pressuring Gov. J.B. Pritzker to accept the input of the other branches of government.
Spain, who had previously called on the governor to loosen restrictions for high school sports spectators, has appreciated the bipartisan move he and other lawmakers have worked on in making an appeal to the governor.
“I am thankful that legislators from across the aisle and across the state are beginning to push back more on executive overreach now that the legislature is back in session,” Spain stated in his Facebook post.
Spain, and more than 30 other senators and representatives sent a letter to the governor encouraging him to allow larger crowds at grade school, junior high, and high school extracurricular events.
Spain said that Pritzker should listen to the lawmakers.
“Our local school officials are telling us they can accommodate at least 25% audience capacity safely,” he said. “I hope Gov. Pritzker takes this feedback from educators and legislators seriously.”
The governor has issued 76 executive orders without legislative input in over a year.
