The City of Canton has been named a recipient of 2020 Community Development Block Grant funding through the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity. Sen. Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) is delighted to see the funds going to the area.
The funding is designated for economic and community development in non-metropolitan areas.
"I would like to congratulate the City of Canton on being chosen as a 2020 Community Development Block Grant recipient by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity,” Koehler wrote on a Facebook post. “I am pleased to see such important investments being made in communities right here in Central Illinois, and I know that this funding will improve the lives of Canton's residents for years to come.”
Funding program components include public infrastructure, housing rehabilitation and economic development, as well as disaster response.
The City of Canton has received $547,299 for public infrastructure needs.
These funds will be used to help improve the lives of residents who may be living in conditions that are less-than-ideal in terms of public health, safety and public welfare. Funds are being directed to low-to-moderate income areas.
