At a press conference at Peoria Tire & Vulcanizing to promote a bill that would provide some 400,000 small-business owners a tax break, state Sen. Win Stoller (R-Germantown Hills) heard a lot of praise from the company's owner Michael Rieker.
“We are a fifth generation family-owned business, celebrating our 100th year in business,” Rieker said. “We employ 20 employees and we are proud to be here with Sen. Win Stoller today. Win is unique because he is an accountant by trade. An MBA degree holder. He's a fiscal responsibility guy. He's a local business owner and he's someone that we trust.”
Rieker briefly highlighted the benefit of Stoller's SALT (state and local tax) bill to business owners.
“So today, we'd like to discuss the SALT tax bill that he passed that will help small businesses like us on our federal taxes,” he said. “During the season of COVID, we’ve struggled, everyone has struggled, and so with this bill, it can help us reduce our tax load.”
Rieker was proud in announcing to the community about the senator’s milestone since he was sworn into office.
“Our constituents should feel very fortunate that we have Win representing us in Springfield,” Rieker said. “We've been fortunate enough that Win has taken office Jan. 5 and in that short amount of time, he's been able to pass four bills through the House and state Senate which is an accomplishment that many veteran legislators are not able to do, let alone a freshman senator… We want to thank Sen. Stoller for his efforts and helping out his local constituents.”
Stoller said this bill will benefit a broad range of businesses. "Over 400,000 business owners statewide have the opportunity to benefit from this tax deduction," Stoller said. "We have manufacturers, Realtors, car washes, roofing contractors, catering businesses, our friends in the farming community, carpet stores, bicycles, IT services, blue collar, white collar, there's a long list of businesses that are going to be able to benefit from my SALT bill."
The senator was also delighted to say that his bill has bipartisan support from the legislators in the 102nd General Assembly.
The SALT bill passed both houses and has been sent to Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s desk.
