City of Marquette Heights City Council Met May 24.

CALL TO ORDER

The City Council meeting was called to order at 7:00 P.M by Mayor Hamm.

ROLL CALL

Aldermen present for Roll Call: Alderman Little, Naugle, Amundson, Neuhaus and Neumann.

Also present were Clerk Steele, Public Works Director Brown, Police Chief Merritt, and Fire Chief Fortier.

Absent: Treasurer Ghidina, Office Manager Minson

REPORTS OF CITY OFFICIALS

Mayor

Saturday, May 29th, 2021 Kona Ice will have their Ribbon Cutting.

Clerk

Office is opened fully to the public now. No more than two people in the vestibule at a time. Masks will still be required within the office.

Treasurer

Absent – no report.

Attorney

I3 Broadband moving forward will require Statewide Franchise ordinance and a Rights of way ordinance for work to install.

Communication

None

Citizens Wishing to Address the Council

Mike Mathias with the Marquette Heights Men’s Club informed Council of the spring Carnival coming June 3rd – Jun 6th. Carnival will be located in the field next to Dollar General. List of employees to be sent.

REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES:

Water and Sewer – Alderman Amundson

Phase 1 of Tower project will begin later this week.

Law Enforcement – Alderman Little

Alderman Little extended thanks to the Police Department for taking part in the Georgetown Middle School Parade.

New cameras are in, installation to be scheduled.

Alderman Little and Chief Merritt discussed the concerns over fireworks since neighboring municipalities have cancelled. Influx of extra attendees poses public safety concerns. Council agrees to not issue a permit at this time and postpone for a later date.

Mutual aid has been notified of the Carnival coming to town.

Streets – Alderman Neumann

Spray patching is done. There are areas of lose gravel and some signs posted. There are some spots needing done outside of budget.

Mowing crew has been keeping up with new schedule changes made.

Public Buildings / Parks – Alderman Naugle

Electrician fixed shortage in lights over skatepark; bill to come.

Soffit work continues with steel painting once more help is hired. Lighting looks much better.

Fire – Alderman Neuhaus

Alderman Neuhaus extended thanks to the Fire Department for participation in the Georgetown Middle School Parade.

Planning –

No report.

CONSENT AGENDA:

Approve May 10th, 2021 Regular Council Meeting minutes.

Approve May 10th, 2021 Executive Council Meeting minutes.

Approve Bi-Monthly expenditures in the amount of $88,481.58.

APPROVE CONSENT AGENDA:

Alderman Little made motion, seconded by Alderman Amundson, to approve the consent agenda in its entirety. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes, motion passed.

NEW BUSINESS:

Alderman Little made a motion, seconded by Alderman Neumann to approve the appointment of Heather Greiner as Alderman Ward II for a two-year term. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes, Nays: None. Motion passed.

Alderman Neumann made motion, seconded by Alderman Amundson to approve Mayoral Appointments

Alderman Amundson made a motion, seconded by Alderman Neuhaus to approve the following new signers to the bank accounts: Dale Hamm; Dale Little; David Ghidina; Justin Neumann and Bob Neuhaus. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: 5 Nays: None. Abstain: Alderman Little, Motion passed.

Alderman Little made a motion, seconded by Alderman Amundson to approve the hiring of FT Street Employee Applicant, Dan Morgan.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS PERTAINING TO THE CITY

None

ADJOURNMENT

Alderman Neuman made motion, seconded by Alderman Neuhaus, to adjourn the regular City Council Meeting at 7:28pm. Roll Call Vote: All Ayes. Motion passed.
