Sealcoating work is set to begin on Thursday, Aug. 7, on several streets across Peoria. The city’s Public Works Department announced that residents who will be directly affected by the roadwork will receive a door hanger notification 24 hours before the start of the project.
Residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the street once notified. "No parking and other traffic signs will be placed on selected streets. No parking areas will remain in effect until the project is completed, and the no parking signs have been removed," according to the city.
The sealcoating process is expected to last one day for each section. During this time, roads and driveways may be inaccessible for 30 to 60 minutes. Emergency vehicles will continue to have access throughout the operation.
After about two weeks from completion, street sweeping will be conducted to clear loose rocks left behind by the sealcoating.
These projects are part of Peoria’s annual Pavement Preservation Program run by the Public Works Department. The city has expressed appreciation for residents' cooperation as these treatments are intended to help extend pavement lifespan.
