State Representative Ryan Spain (R-73rd District) has recognized over 300 students in kindergarten through fifth grade who completed his annual Summer Reading Club. The program required participants to read eight books during their summer break to qualify for the club and receive recognition.

“As a parent, I know firsthand how important it is to encourage our kids to keep their minds active during summer break, and research shows how beneficial reading is to their future development,” said Spain. “Congratulations to all the young readers across the 73rd District who took on my reading challenge this summer! Your commitment to reading sets you up for future success, and I hope you enjoyed it as well.”

A total of 315 students finished the challenge this year, which marks a record participation. Each student who reached the goal received a letter of congratulations, a certificate of recognition, and a gift card for a treat from Rep. Spain. According to the announcement, these rewards were not funded by taxpayers.

The Summer Reading Club is open each year through local schools and libraries in the district. Students can participate in this program alongside other reading initiatives provided by their schools or libraries.

Spain was elected as a Republican representative to Illinois' 73rd House District in 2017, succeeding David R. Leitch. More information about his background can be found at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_Spain.
