Perakis Ties For 10th; Braves Finish Seventh At Little Rock Classic

22

Bradley University Athletics issued the following announcement on Oct. 26

Freshman Maria Perakis earned her second top-10 finish of the year, firing a final round 72 to finish in a tie for 10th at three-over 219 as she helped Bradley Women's Golf climb two spots into seventh in the final team standings at the Little Rock Golf Classic Tuesday.

Perakis and senior Megan Welch tied for low round honors on the day for the Braves with both carding 72's in the final round at the par-72 Diamante Country Club.  The third-round 72 moved Perakis into a tie for 10th at three-over 219 for the low 54-hole score of the season for Bradley.  In fact, Perakis matched the lowest 54-hole score by a Bradley freshman; tying the record of 219 set by Taylor Ledwein at the Cardinal Classic in Yorktown, Ind., back in September 2016.

Welch matched her low round of the season and career with a 72 Tuesday as she capped off the lowest 54-hole tournament of her Bradley career at four-over 220 to tie for 15th.

The duo helped the Braves post their second-lowest round of the season at seven-over 295 with Bradley jumping ahead of both UT Arlington and Houston Baptist on the final day.  BU's three-round total of 900 tied for the ninth lowest 54-hole score in program history and helped the Braves finish seventh overall, two shots better than eighth-place UT Arlington (902) and three ahead of ninth-place Houston Baptist (903) in the 11-team field.

Central Arkansas had four of the top five individuals in the field with UCA's Camila Moreno taking the medalist title at four-under 212 as the Bears finished at four-under 860 to run away with the team title.  Louisiana-Monroe was second in the team standings, 13-shots back at nine-over 873 and tournament-host Little Rock was third at 881.

Junior Mara Flaherty made the biggest jump among the Braves, using a one-over 73 Tuesday to climb up 12 spots on the leaderboard into a tie for 41st overall (231).

Sophomore Vaijayanti Bharkhada was six back of Flaherty in a tie for 54th at 237, closing out the tournament with an 83.  Freshman Kathryn McNease turned in her best round of the tournament with a final round 78 Tuesday and tied for 57th overall at 239 to round out the scoring for Bradley.

The Little Rock Classic marked the end of the 2021 Fall schedule for the Braves, who will open the spring season in February.
