Bradley University Athletics issued the following announcement on Jan. 15
Freshman Nicola Jansen won the 3,000-meter title, breaking the meet record in the event, and Bradley Track & Field set three school records during the team's first action in over a month at the Hawkeye Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Making her track debut for the Braves after earning Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Year honors in cross country, Jansen challenged the school record in the 3,000 set by Caitlin Busch in 2016. Jansen won the event by almost 50 seconds and topped the previous meet record by over 30 seconds, claiming the top spot in the field with a time of 9:26.14. Her time, which was just over a second from topping Busch's school record, would rank 14th nationally this season. Junior Tyler Schwartz crossed the line in time of 10:19.98 to finish fifth.
Sophomore Tiana LoStracco clocked a school record in the women's 600 meters, taking first in her heat with a time of 1:34.72 to finish fifth overall in the event. LoStracco topped the previous school record in the event of 1:35.44 set by Melodie Turner in 1990.
In the men's 60 meters, freshman Eli Rieker improved on a school record dating back to 1987 (Brian Radke - 7.11) with a time of 7.07 to finish sixth in his heat that saw two individuals break the meet record in the event. In addition, Rieker was Bradley's top finisher in the men's 200 meters, winning his heat with a personal-best time of 23.10
The oldest school record to fall for the Braves at the Hawkeye Invitational came in the men's 60-meter hurdles. Junior Miguel Agyei posted a time of 8.46 in the event to break the previous school mark of 8.54 seconds set in 1977 by David Brown.
Bradley boasted the second-place finisher in both the men's and women's mile. Junior George Watson was one of four individuals in the men's field to beat the old meet record, posting a posted a personal-best time of 4:08.96 to finish second. Fellow junior Charlie Parrish was fifth in the men's mile with a personal best of 4:16.05.
Sophomore Sophia McDonnell took second in the women's mile with a PR of 4:59.14, while freshman Ashley Maguire was close behind in fifth at 5:02.72.
In the men's 800 meters, sophomore Max Dieterich was Bradley's top finisher among six Braves. His personal-best time of 1:52.89 put him second in the field and ranks fifth in school history. Junior Joey Simon joined Dieterich in the top 10, crossing the line in a time of 1:55.88 to take 10th.
The day also included a strong showing in the women's 400 meters, with three Braves finishing in the top eight. Junior Hannah Ivy nearly matched her personal best, finishing with a time of 57.43 to finish third overall. Freshman Amiyah Davis won her heat in a time of 58.81 to finish sixth in the field, while sophomore Reina McMillan's time of 59.98 seconds put her eighth overall.
Bradley wrapped up competition with a strong showing in the women's 4x400-meter relay. Ivy, McMillan and Davis joined with T'ya Suber to finish one second from breaking the school record in the even set just last year as the group edged out MVC rival Northern Iowa for fifth in the field at 3:55.10.
The Braves return to the state of Iowa next weekend, heading to Ames, Iowa, Saturday, Jan. 22 for the Cyclone Invitational
