Rep. Tim Butler (R-Springfield) announced in January that he would be running to represent the newly created 95th District, which includes Sangamon County. He has been campaigning and recently announced a new endorsement.

"Honored to be endorsed by Sangamon County Republicans and Chair Dianne Barghouti Hardwick. These endorsements mean so much to me as a Representative serving from the hometown of Abraham Lincoln. I look forward to continuing as a voice of our Central Illinois values at the State House!” Butler posted on Facebook.

Butler announced his intent to run on Jan. 10. He is currently in his fourth term in public office, after working for both Congressman Rodney Davis and former Congressman Ray LaHood.

In February, he reached out to constituents via Facebook post, inquiring about a potential nickname for the new district.

Butler recently sponsored a bill that would allow Cook County residents to recall their elected State's Attorney. Kim Foxx has come under fire for her handling of the Jussie Smollett case in the past few years.  “State’s Attorney Foxx has created a crisis of confidence in the Cook County judicial system,” said Butler. “Giving preferential treatment to some defendants like Jussie Smollett and totally ignoring the victims of crime has caused the public to lose faith in her ability to execute the duties she was elected to do.”
